Softball NL Bat Rule Amendment (Minor)
The 2016 Season is upon us as we speak. We have received several emails regarding the Bat Rule in Minor Softball.
At the Softball NL AGM, the 2-piece bat was defined, described and discussed in great length. We have spoken with Jeff Whipple, the Umpire-in-Chief for Canada, about the topic. Across Canada the banned bat list is all that is followed. Our province had looked at what was safe several seasons ago when the 2-piece bat was first introduced. We worried about the possibility of injuries of the youth with such powerful bats. These bats are being used across the country in all National tournaments by teams, excluding ours. It is a disadvantage to our players and prevents them from competing on a “level playing field”. From this point forward Softball NL will be following the Softball Canada Bat Rule which is listed in the 2016 Minor Manual and found at www.softball.ca/english/about/approved-equipment/bats.html.
Please note that all Minor Female (U16 and below) and Male (U14 and below) pitchers will now be required to wear face masks for their safety.
