Town of Conception Bay South and CBS Minor Softball Association bringing new life to All Saints School Property
There’s some great news for softball players in Conception Bay South. The All Saints School property, which is an old school and field site in Foxtrap, is expecting new ownership and a new makeover. The Town of Conception Bay South will enter into a purchase and sale agreement with the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District to acquire the property. Once acquired, the Town will pass ownership over to the CBS Minor Softball Association.
The Association plans to fundraise so that the old school can be demolished and the area can become a safe and beautiful place to play. The Town will continue to provide year-round maintenance to further enhance the area.
“Cleaning up the old school site has been a long-standing issue for area residents – myself included. Its deteriorating state posed safety risks for the community, among other concerns. The history is too long to tell, but finally we have the right combination of stakeholders to do something positive with this property and make a great change for the neighborhood. I would like to thank the Honourable Brian Warr, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District, and the CBS Minor Softball Association for working with us to find a solution. This is going to benefit the whole community,” said Mayor Terry French.
“Over the past number of months, we have been working with the Town of Conception Bay South to retain ownership of All Saints Field. We are elated that we have finally reached the point that we can announce that the transfer will take place very soon. We are extremely excited over this project and are very thankful to Mayor Terry French, Council and staff for their continued support throughout this process. We feel this is the right time to take on this project as we have a strong, dedicated and capable board of directors leading the way.
We are accepting the challenge to remove the former All Saints Primary School building, which has been condemned for a number of years and posed a health and safety concern for the community. We want to secure ownership of the field to ensure that CBS Minor Softball Association Inc. can continue in the years to come and we can accommodate the growing number of participants, by securing our field time. We will be holding numerous fundraising events and we hope we will have the full support of the community. We will ensure that this property is something that the community can be proud of,” said Jill Warren, President, CBS Minor Softball Association Inc.
