Gerald Cox

Gerald Cox was a member of the Umpire Family in Newfoundland Labrador.

Cox served as Vice-President of the St. John’s Metro Association for 4-Years (2007-2010) and was an Active Umpire for 12-Years (2004-2011, 2015, 2019-2021) and was named Softball NL Umpire of the Year in 2007.

He attended the U19 Women’s Canadian Fastpitch Championship in Stellerton, NS in 2008 and attended the U19 World Men’s in Charlottetown, PEI in 2009.

Cox worked numerous Minor Provincial Fastpitch and Slo-Pitch Tournaments, as well as Adult Provincial Fastpitch Tournaments and also umpired in the Molson Coors St. John’s Senior and Intermediate Men’s Fastpitch Leagues. He also umpired at the 2021 U16 Girls Eastern Canadian Softball Championship held in Portugal Cove-St. Philips.

He was big in stature, but also personality, with his big hardy laugh and big smile.

A dependable umpire who was willing to assist others. A very dedicated and compassionate umpire throughout the whole softball community. His biggest impact was with the Minor Provincial Fastpitch And Slo-Pitch Tournaments, as he took a lot of pride in working with the Minor Boys and Girls Teams from all over the Province.

There is no doubt that Gerald’s contributions to the Local and Provincial Softball Community will definitely be missed.
