Joseph R. Tulk (1952-2025)

It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph R. Tulk after a lengthy health battle.

Joe was predeceased by his partner Ann LeRoux, his parents Joseph and Theresa Tulk, and his brother Derek.

Left behind to mourn his loss; Joe’s brother Roger and his wife Lisa. Their son Stephen and his wife Kelsi and their sons Weston and Bowen.

Joe’s sister Terri, her husband Chad and sons Jayden and Cody.

And Derek’s children, Laura Tulk and Noah Tulk.

Joe also leaves many friends and relatives. Ray Noel and all their buddies at the Junior 50’s Association [who should be inducted into the Hall of Fame – Sport NL]. His coworkers and friends Don O’Neil and Brian Clancy. His very special care worker Janet and her furry companion Luna. His buddies from the “Weekend Breakfast Club”. And so many more friends who he loved to chat with.

From his days working at his Dad’s convenience store, his school buddies at St. Pat’s and Brother Rice, his times roller skating at the old stadium, working at Merit Insurance to his days volunteering for the Junior 50’s, umpiring numerous softball games, and working at the Shop, Joe amassed a huge circle of people around him. He was a huge fan of local hockey and held season tickets for many years, attending every game till his health started to decline. Every intermission he could be found in the concourse holding court with the numerous people he knew. He was often interviewed about hockey in St. John’s and was proud to share his love of the game. He was a proud New York Yankees fan, and a loyal Montreal Canadiens fan. Perhaps his biggest passion was Cadillacs and collecting diecast cars. Anyone who visited him was often encouraged to pick a car from the giveaway table before they left.

Joe’s pride and joy in this life was the almost 40 years he spent at Tulk’s Glass and Key Shop. Oh how he loved the shop and missed it so much when his hands prevented him from working any longer. He always said he wanted to die sat at a key machine. He was a talented locksmith with an amazing mind for writing Master key systems, the best in the city in our humble opinion. He was so proud of the generations of people he did work for, so happy to travel the city pointing out houses and businesses where he did the locks. Not a day goes by without a customer inquiring about Joe. His presence at the shop will be missed, his knowledge a huge loss.

We love you Joe, we’ll miss you, we’ll always remember you and we’ll repeat your “Joeyisms” whenever we can.

We are heartbroken to say, Joe has called his last strike, called his last bingo game, cut his last key. His final act will be picking the lock of the pearly gates before St. Peter has a chance to welcome him into heaven.

Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation on Sunday and Monday from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at 11 a.m. from the Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist.
