2016 Canadian Championships Updates and Reminders
The Canadian Championship website has the complete dates and locations for the 2016 Championships. Each Host has been provided with a log in and template back in January to populate their respective website. We are working with each Host to get that information loaded as soon as possible.
Softball Canada will be increasing the team entry fees for the Fast Pitch Championships effective 2016 for the next 3 years. The rate will now be $750 per team. Please note that each Canadian Championship will range from 5-7 days and feature a minimum of 6 games. The rate increase for Slo-Pitch will come into effect beginning with the 2017 season since the Slo-Pitch teams qualify the previous season. It will remain at $500 for 2016.
As per discussions at the AGM, the Confirmation of Participation (COP) forms are due on the respective dates – May 1 for Slo-Pitch Championships and June 7 for Fast Pitch. Any registrations after the above dates will incur an additional late fee of $500. There will be no exceptions to this rule moving forward. Payments for teams attending all Canadian Championships are due in the Softball Canada office by June 30th. There are no invoices created as your COP form will serve as back up for your payment. Softball Canada will issue a receipt for your payment if requested.
During the Canadian Championship workshop, P/Ts were also reminded of the required Coaching Certification at the Canadian Fast Pitch Championships. Per the SORs:
Managers and Coaches
Managers and coaches are eligible to participate in Canadian Championships under the following provisions:
i) They are signed to the current Softball Canada or Provincial/Territorial Team Registration Certificate of his/her team.
ii) One of the registered coaches or manager must be fully Competition-Introduction certified or Level II – softball (theory, technical, practical) certified in the National Coaching Certification Program and must be in attendance at all games and on the team’s bench.
iii) If neither of the coaches, managers nor players are fully certified and in attendance at all games and on the team’s bench, they will not be allowed on the field or in the coaches’ box at a Canadian Championship. If one of the coaches or the manager are certified and in attendance at all games and on the team bench then the coaching staff (coach, coach and manager) may go on the field.
a) A province/territory sending a team to a Canadian Championship without one fully certified coach/manager will be fined $2,500. (Two Thousand Five Hundred Dollars).
iv) Managers and coaches may not participate as players unless they are so registered.
Please note that the following 2017 Championships are still accepting bids – U14 Boys, U18 Men’s and Men’s Fast Pitch. All other events have been awarded or have bids pending.
