U21 Men’s International Championship
Tuesday, May 21st
(Ottawa, ON) Softball Canada is very pleased to announce that two international teams have confirmed their attendance for the U21 Men’s International Championship, which will take place from July 9 to 14 in Saskatoon, SK. The ISA New Zealand Under-21 Team and the Argentina U18 Men’s National Team have committed to the event, and will be competing with the 11 Canadian provincial/territorial teams. Thirteen teams are now confirmed for the event, with the possibility of adding one more international team.
‘The U21 International Championship was created in 2009 to replace the experience of the Canada Summer Games in our men’s program’ said Softball Canada President Kevin Quinn. ‘The 2009 event was a huge success and I am sure the 2013 U21 Event will be a fantastic event as well. With the addition of international teams from Argentina and New Zealand we have created some additional excitement around the event. This is a great opportunity to see how our Provincial/Territorial teams will fare against international competition. We look forward to some exciting men’s softball in Saskatoon in 2013.’
The teams will be divided in two pools of round-robin play, with the top four teams of each pool advancing to the playoff round and the top two teams of each division having double life. The teams who do not qualify for the playoff round will compete in a consolation playoff.
The U21 Men’s International Championship was created to offer male softball athletes from across Canada the opportunity to compete in a major tournament featuring teams from each province and territory as well as a few international teams. The first event was held in 2009 in Charlottetown, PEI for the U19 age category, where Ontario edged Saskatchewan for the Gold medal and Team Northwest Territories took home the Consolation championship.
