Online Webinar: “Making Sense of the Commercial Sports Food Scene” will be streamed live online on October 12th at 2:30 p.m

This online webinar will be hosted by Nancy Clark, who is a renowned author and board-certified specialist in sports dietetics. She is known for her ability to translate the science of nutrition for exercise and health into practical tips to enhance performance, manage weight, and resolve eating disorders. This webinar will review the importance of proper eating before, during and after exercise, while focusing on the popular commercial sports foods that are most commonly consumed by athletes. She will cover sports drinks, energy drinks, gels, energy bars, and recovery foods, and their role in enhancing athletic performances.

By the end of this webinar, the participant will be able to:
1. Understand the benefits of fueling before, during, and after hard exercise.
2. Identify three commercial sports foods and three alternative options of standard foods that athletes can consume to meet their nutritional needs before, during and after hard exercise.
3. Discuss the pros and cons of using “natural” vs “engineered” sports foods.

“Concussions in Sport” with Krista Mullaly-Dobbin (Athletic Therapist) will be offered at Swiler’s Rugby Complex Multi-Purpose Room on October 19th from 7:00-8:15 p.m.

This course will cover one of the biggest medical concerns in sport today, concussions, and this course will be instructed by Krista Mullaly-Dobbin. Krista is an athletic therapist at Memorial University where she works with varsity athletes at allied health services. This course will be very beneficial for coaches, but also for parents, athletes and officials. It is very important for anyone involved with sport to be educated on concussions as they can lead to serious medical conditions.
