Brendan McCarthy

Brendan McCarthy’s passion for sports was only surpassed by his love for his family – especially his grandsons Alex and Ryan. His commitment, dedication, knowledge and passion for Sports was clearly evident in his collective work at The Telegram. Whether covering sports at the local, provincial, national or international levels, or professional hockey (AHL) his way with words were a masterclass in sports journalism.

Brendan will definitely be revered as one of the best – if not the best – beloved and respected sports writers in the Provinces history, but even moreso he will be remembered first and foremost as a family man who had a genuine and sincere interest in people and was considered a true gentleman in every sense.

Brendan started work at The Telegram in 1991 and quickly became a part of the sports fabric in the Province of Newfoundland Labrador. He covered sports in a professional manner and his fair assessments earned him the utmost respect in the sporting community.

There is no denying that Brendan’s contributions to the Local Sports Community (and overall Sports Community) had a positive impact that will be hard (if not impossible) to match, not alone surpass.
