The day-to-day challenges for a student-athlete are demanding and require commitment, dedication, focus, hard work and time-management skills, both on the field (training, games) and off the field (training, travel, studies). Sacrifices are inherent to the student-athlete life, but with support from teammates, coaches, professors/instructors, and most importantly family, the journey is worthwhile.
Sarah Power had an impactful 1st Year in the Nation’s Capital and displayed (what most already knew) that she is more than capable of balancing the life of a student-athlete, performing at an elite level in both areas.
Off The Field – Academically
Sarah is attending the University of Ottawa where she is Majoring in Criminology and Minoring in Psychology. Her commitment and dedication to her studies are evident as she finished her 1st Year with an 85% Overall Average.
On The Field – Athletically
Sarah appeared in all 22 of the Gee-Gees Games (20 League and 2 Playoff). She finished with a .316 Batting Average (25-for-79), 21 Runs Scored, 7 Doubles, 4 Triples, 2 Home Runs, 7 Walks, 21 Runs Batted In, .372 On-Base Percentage, .582 Slugging Percentage, .954 On-Base Plus Slugging Percentage, and .864 Fielding Percentage. During the season, she earned OUS Athlete of the Week Honours and University of Ottawa Athlete of the Week Honours. A key moment in the Gee-Gees season was when Sarah hit a game-tying 3-Run Home Run in the 7th Inning against TMU Bold and her team went on to win the game and secure a Playoff Spot in the Ontario University Softball Championship (Double-Elimination) Tournament.
Sarah finished 1st on her team in 6 Categories: Plate Appearances (86), At Bats (79), Quality At Bats (46), Games Played (22), Runs Batted In (21) and Doubles (7).
