Passing of Mr. Don Johnson

Softball Newfoundland & Labrador is saddened to learn of the passing of Don Johnson on Saturday, May 12th, 2012.

Softball NL Executive Member

From 1972 to 1976, Don held the position of Treasurer on the Softball Newfoundland & Labrador Executive.

President St. John’s Senior Men’s Fastpitch League

From 1972 to 1976, Don was the President of the St. John’s Senior Men’s Fastpitch League.

Softball NL Life Member

In 1976, Don was one of three individuals to be named a Life Member of Softball Newfoundland & Labrador. The other individuals were Bette Murhpy (St. John’s) and Denis (Dee) Murphy (St. John’s). There are 19 Life Members of Softball Newfoundland & Labrador.

Hall of Fames

In 1977, Don was inducted into the Softball Newfoundland & Labrador Hall of Fame as a Builder and in 1982, Don was inducted into the Sport NL Hall of Fame as a Builder.

Obituary for Johnson, Don

Johnson, Don-It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we the family announce the passing of Don Johnson on May 12th, 2012 in his 82nd year. Predeceased by his mother Ina MacRobson and father Donald Johnson (senior) both of Nova Scotia. Leaving to mourn his loving and dedicated wife of 59 years, Florence (Harris), sons: Peter (Pauline), Michael (Valerie); daughter: Cathy (Dion). Greatly missed by grand children Steven, David, Olivia and Matthew. Also remembered by sisters in law Lillian Miller, Shirley Mayhew and Barbara Trefry as well as a large circle of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Don has touched the hearts of many and will be sadly missed by all. Resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd. on Sunday from 7-9 p.m., Monday and Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place at St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday May 16, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in Don’s memory may be made to the Minor Hockey Association or to a charity of ones choice.
