McDonald and Power Tops In CBS

Senior Male Athlete of the Year: Tyler McDonald

Tyler McDonald was named the 2009 CBS Senior Male Athlete of the Year.

Junior Nationals

McDonald was a member of the Kelly’s Pub Junior Canadians Fastpitch Team that captured Gold at the 2009 Canadian Junior Men’s Fastpitch Championships in Owen Sound, ON. The Kelly’s Pub Junior Canadians defeated Nova Scotia Murphy’s Fish & Chips 4-2 in the title game.

Intermediate League

McDonald was a key member of the CBS Intermediate Men’s Fastptich Team in 2009. He captured the 2009 Molson St. John’s Intermediate Men’s Fastpitch League Batting Title with a .417BA (25-60) and was also named to the All-Star (League) Team as an outfielder.

Senior League

McDonald was a member of the Kelly’s Pub Junior Canadians team that captured the 2009 St. John’s Day Tournament Championship and the 2009 Senior Provincial Championship (the first Junior team to accomplish this feat). The Kelly’s Pub Junior Canadians finished the regular season in 2nd place with a 16-8 record and were runner-up in the League Final.

Other

Off the softball diamond in 2009, McDonald played squash provincially with the Senior Men’s “A” Team and is ranked in the top 10 players.

NOTE: Mike Gregory (Softball) was nominated and was one of the finalists for the Senior Male Athlete of the Year.

Junior Male Athlete of the Year: Isaac Davis Power

Isaac Davis Power was named the 2009 CBS Junior Male Athlete of the Year.

Softball

Power won the Most Valuable Player Award at the William Moss Pee-Wee Championships and was named Most Valuable Player at the Pee-Wee Provincial Championships. Was also named Minor Male Player of the Year at the 2009 Softball Newfoundland & Labrador AGM.

Badminton

Power was first in singles, second in doubles and first in mixed. He was selected to represent Newfoundland and Labrador at the Atlantic Under 14 Badminton Championships in Nova Scotia.

In the Provincial Under 14 Badminton Championships in Conception Bay South, Power was awarded the Triple Crown, winning gold in singles, doubles and mixed. In the Atlantic Under 14 Badminton Championships, Power won a gold medal in mixed doubles and a silver medal in doubles.

Badminton Newfoundland named him Under 14 Provincial Male Player of the Year.
