Softball NL Is Saddened To Learn That Bruce “Nick” Thistle Passed Away On Monday, April 6th, 2015.
To Nick’s Family & Friends, Our Thoughts And Prayers Are With You During This Difficult Time.
Not Only Have Nick’s Family & Friends Lost A Loved One, But The Entire Softball Community And Hockey Community Have Lost One Of The Best.
The Atmosphere At Lions Park Will Not Be The Same Without Nick. He Made Significant Contributions On And Off The Field And His Memory Will Last Forever. Each Time The Second Out Of An Inning Is Recorded We Will Think Of Nick Yelling Out TWO GONE.
Off The Field
Nick Was A Member Of The St. John’s Senior Men’s Fastpitch League Executive For 15 Consecutive Years From 1995 To 2009. He Served As Vice-President For 3-Years (1995-1997) and Served As President For 12-Years (1998-2009).
He Was Also A Member Of The Organizing Committee For The 2000 Canadian Junior Men’s Fastpitch Championship Held In CBS, NL.
On The Field
As A Manager, Nick’s Teams Collected 21 Championships At The Local & Provincial Levels And He Represented NL At The Canadian Senior Men’s Fastpitch Championship On Three Occasions.

Thistle, Bruce (Nick) – Passed peacefully away at his residence, on Monday, April 6th, 2015, Bruce (Nick) Thistle Age 84-Years. Predeceased by his parents Bill and Ella Thistle, brothers Cyril and Bern, sisters Helen Ivany (Ralph) and Shirley Adams (John), brothers-in-law Don Noseworthy and Hubert Thomas. Leaving to mourn his wife of 57 years Agnes (Thomas), daughter Shirley and sons Cyril (Susan) and Jim; two grandchildren who were the love of his life, Andrea and Stephen Thistle; brother Edward (Blanche), sister Marina Noseworthy; brothers-in-law David (Jean) Thomas and Wilfred Thomas, sisters-in-law Joan Thistle and Pauline Thomas. As well as many other family and friends, especially his softball buddies and hockey friends at Mile One. Resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home, on Tuesday from 7:00pm to 9:00pm on Wednesday from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 7:00pm to 9:00pm. Funeral service 2:00pm on Thursday, April 9th, 2015, from Barrett’s Chapel with cremation to follow.
