Softball Newfoundland Labrador (Softball NL) will host the 2017 Softball Canada Annual General Meeting & Congress taking place at the Holiday Inn on Portugal Cove Road in St. John’s from November 09-11, 2017.
There will be approximately 120 delegates from all across Canada participating in this year’s event. Delegates include Provincial and Territorial Presidents, Board Members and Staff, as well as Umpires and other observers.
The AGM & Congress will include three full days of workshops and sessions including:
– Board of Directors Meeting
– Officiating Development Committee Meeting
– National/Provincial Umpire-in-Chief(s) Meeting
– Skill Development Session at Techniplex
– Marketing & Branding
– Women’s National Team
– Canadian Championships
– Long-Term Player Development & Coaching Programs
– International Panel
The event will conclude on Saturday with the 2017 Softball Canada Hall of Fame & Awards Banquet.
Newfoundlanders Colin Abbott (Portugal Cove), Randy Souliers (St. John’s) and Saskatoon, SK native and current NL resident Les Howey (Conception Bay South) will be inducted into the Softball Canada Hall of Fame. Abbott will be inducted in the Athlete Category, Souliers will be inducted in the Official Category and Howey will be inducted in the Team Category, as he was the Assistant Coach of the 1992 Canadian Men’s World Championship Gold Medal Team.
As well, three Newfoundlanders will receive National Awards: Claude Deschamps Memorial Award Recipient Jordan Pomeroy (Placentia), Ethel Boyce Memorial Award Recipient Mitch Stack (Petty Harbour) and Rose Hodgson Volunteer of the Year Award Recipient Paul F. Smith (Upper Gullies).
This is the 5th time that Newfoundland Labrador have hosted this event, the previous four occasions were in 1971, 1982, 1993 & 2006.
