RE: Softball NL Sanctioned Programs/Activities Suspended Until June 08
Softball NL Membership,
As most people are aware, we are currently at NL COVID-19 Alert Level 4 and are moving quickly towards NL COVID-19 Alert Level 3 (June 08). With the nice weather this weekend, we understand and realize that everyone is itching to get back on the softball diamond and back to playing the game we all love, and we believe that if we continue to collectively work together that this can be achieved on some level this summer – what that level looks likes remains to be seen and depends on a number of factors.
With the recent announcements that the 2020 Canadian Fastpitch Championships and the 2020 Eastern Canadian Softball Championships have been cancelled, we have devoted 100% of our focus on potential ways in which softball can resume on the Local and Provincial levels. We would like to take this opportunity to advise membership that we have completed a COVID-19 Softball NL Return To Play Plan/Guidelines and have submitted that document to Sport NL on Friday, May 29. Sport NL are in the process of reviewing the document and will be submitting to the Provincial Government on Wednesday, June 03, 2020.
As a result, Softball Newfoundland Labrador Have Extended The Suspension Of All Softball NL Sanctioned Programs/Activities Until June 08. This includes all Coaching Courses, High Performance Camps, Skills Camps, Umpires Clinics And Other Scheduled Programming And Meetings. We also strongly encourage Associations/Teams at the Community and/or Club levels to extend the suspension of Programs/Activities until June 08. A decision on further suspension or reinstatement of Programs/Activities (in some capacity) will be made once feedback from the Provincial Government has been received. Unfortunately at this time we are not in a position to release the information contained in the COVID-19 Softball NL Return To Play Plan/Guidelines out of respect for the process.
Once again, we are confident that as we collectively work together that we will get through this COVID-19 pandemic. All decisions that have been made to this point have been made with everyone’s health and safety in mind and that has been consistent from Day 1 and will continue until such a time as softball gets that green light to resume and swing for the fences once again.
